Speaking at Stirling Mennonite Church in Canada for their Peace Sunday Service was a joy. The worship service beautifully highlighted our shared calling to be peacemakers in a broken world. One particularly touching moment was learning a heartfelt children’s song, “Peace, Salaam, Shalom” (listen here). Another moving song, “Between Darkness and Light,” featured in the Mennonite hymnal Voices Together, was sung in English, Arabic, Hebrew, Ukrainian and Russian (listen here). Singing in these languages, we symbolically participated in the hope for peace in the Holy Land and beyond. My talk, “Called to Reconcile: The Church’s Role in Healing Brokenness,” focused on the church’s call to peace and justice—values deeply rooted in Mennonite tradition. After the service, we joined their Sunday school for a Q&A session, discussing the struggles of Christians in the Holy Land and our shared vision for peace.
