I had the opportunity to speak at the Baptist International Conference on Theological Education (BICTE) in Lagos, Nigeria. It was a valuable experience for mutual learning, exchanging perspectives, and sharing knowledge with global peacemakers.
The BICTE is a significant gathering, part of the Baptist World Alliance—a global network of 51 million Baptists in 134 countries and territories united by a mission to impact the world for Christ. This conference, held once every five years, focuses on bringing together Baptist theologians around a specified theme. This year’s theme, ‘Becoming Agents of Peace in our world,’ resonated deeply with our shared mission. At the plenary session, I presented a paper titled ‘Peacemaking & Christian Unity.’ The presentation, along with the response and subsequent Q&A sessions, were deeply engaging, offering a platform to discuss the critical role of peacemaking in promoting Christian unity. The lively discussions and shared experiences deepened our understanding of how diverse cultural and theological insights can enhance global peacebuilding efforts.
I also gave a talk at the ‘Special Evening with Peacemakers’ during the conference, which featured speakers from Ghana, Ukraine, and myself. I shared insights on regional peacemaking initiatives, highlighting various strategies we use in our peace ministry. We earnestly pray that the Prince of Peace will bring comfort and resolution to all countries and territories enduring conflict. |
